Here I was approaching 50; overweight; in a predominantly, desk-bound job, wondering why I had severe back trouble. I knew that I had to do something to lose weight to relieve the stress on my lower back but I did not have the motivation to go to a gym. I needed to look for a personal trainer. I had discussed this with family members but I thought it would be very expensive. As luck would have it, I was walking the dog with my wife and daughter, when we walked past Hewett Reserve and saw that a new Step into Life programme had started. My daughter went over to get some information. It looked to be just what I was looking for so, I thought, I would give it a go and the price per session was very reasonable.

I started out with a couple of sessions per week. Initially it was hard going; getting out of breath very easily and some muscle & tendon issues but, after not doing a lot, that was what I expected. The great thing about having Selwyn as a trainer is that he knows your limitations. You work in small groups, which makes it all the more personal. You are treated as an individual. He is there to motivate and encourage you but he doesn't push you over the top. The thing you have to realise is that you have to put in to get the rewards.

I have not felt better since I was in my mid-thirties. Step into Life has become part of my routine. and, in recent months, I have committed to four training sessions per week doing cardio, toning and kick-boxing. I find early morning sessions fit in with my work commitments but, given the flexibility of the timetable, there are sessions available for anyone.

You have the opportunity to monitor your own development by maintaining a personal diary and you receive regular reports on your progress. You set your own monthly goals. Selwyn reviews your progress and provides feedback on how you are going.

I have lost a considerable amount of weight, my aerobic fitness has improved immensely and my back problems have completely disappeared due, mainly to the improvement in the toning of my abdominal muscles.

I have been participating in Step into Life for 12 months now and look forward to getting up in the morning to do a training session. It sets me up for a day's work and, as a spin off, I have got to meet some great people. It is fun and there is great social interaction and peer support.

It doesn't matter what your level of fitness, we all encourage each other and there is no competition. The only person you need to challenge is yourself, but you need someone there to ensure you are exercising correctly and safely. Selwyn has provided that support and encouragement to all of us.

You could always find me playing sports or at the Gym til I reached my early 30's, exercise became spasmodic. One Word- Bored!
However at 37, 10 Kilo's had appeared.
I joined Step into Life at 38, March 2005 and my spoken words were " I am not going to Run!" Second week in and I am jogging and eventually lost those 10 kilo's.
You get enveloped in confidence, team-spirits and support the moment you begin a class.
You want to give it a go!
In 2007 I ran the full 12km City to Bay (without stopping to walk 1km) to beat my 2006 time by 6 minutes. At the time I had no idea if I could actually run the entire length.
I honestly know I would not have achieved my fitness levels or my goals if it was not for my fantastic Trainer, John Pidgeon and his belief and commitment he shows for his clients and now with another Trainer, Shannon on board both make sure I work to my full full potential each class. Now I cant let myself down, my team down or my Trainers down.
I am so thankful for Step Into Life.

Step into Life is FUN, Motivating, varied, Fun, Outdoors, Interactive, Team-building, Challenging, Unique, Self-improving, and FUN!!

Now my next goal is "BOOT CAMP".
Thankyou Step into Life, West Lakes, SA.

Why I love Step into Life Mawson Lakes...

I have been a fitness enthusiast for most of my adult life.

I frequented the gyms in my early 20s and damaged my knees because nobody told me how to exercise properly.

Then I ran and did aerobics and followed a diet that saw me dangerously thin.

After that I bought my own home equipment, which I used at random and without much success because I had no guidance or real knowledge of what to do with it.

I played basketball where I almost broke a leg...

I’ve also been down the road of fitness group classes but still not achieving the results I wanted until...

I came across Step into Life, an outdoors group personal fitness facility - right here where I live, in Mawson Lakes, and I love it.

I love it because:

· I get competent advice , guidance, support and motivation from our trainer, Craig

· Every workout is different so I am never bored, nor is my body as it also benefits from the variety of workouts so there is no stagnation

· I train with like–minded people, who are also my neighbours so we have a lot in common

· We work hard and play hard – we enjoy social activities such as BBQs, breakfasts, drinks, outdoor games and more

· I am results-driven. I really enjoy the regular fitness tests where we get to test ourselves and track our results over time so that we can really achieve our goals. This aspect is really unique to Step into Life and will work for everyone who wants to see results and not waste their time with self guided and random exercise with its increased risk of physical injuries and mental frustrations.

So give it a go!

Join us!

You will love it as well!

“ I had been leading a fairly inactive life and was putting on weight until the day I discovered the flyer put into my letterbox offering a free trial session. I thought in the park outdoors around the corner from where I live Id give it a try. i attended my first cardio session with Tom at Everton Park. i was rather exhausted after the class finished but tom encouraged me and told me to persevere.

Now a year down the track a fun run under my belt Im 20kgs lighter and feeling a lot better in myself. Allthough i dont still live in the area I still go once a week for my cardio class with Tom.

Thanks Tom for all the encouragment and support.” - Diane Jones

Earlier this year I had a health scare and knew it was time to do something. I saw the Step into Life ad in the local paper and thought why not give it a try. I can tell you all, making that phone call to Lisa was the best thing I ever did.

Tried the Gym, but it wasn't for me. You see, I have always played team sports so I found it difficult to stay motivated when training on my own. I also love the outdoors and didn’'t want to spend all my time stuck inside a gym. I guess it was only natural that I would enjoy Step into Life. I get to train outdoors and enjoy the company of a great group of people. When I started I couldn’'t even run to the corner let alone contemplate doing a 10km fun run but now I can’'t wait to get out there and give it a go.

I also never thought that something like kickboxing would be fun, it looked to me like something that only really fit people did, but I tried it and thanks to Lisa now can’'t wait for Saturdays to come along.

Since I joined in March I have really reaped the rewards of putting in the hard work. I have lost 13kgs, regained my health and now have heaps more energy. I've even taken up riding my bike again. Thanks to my improved fitness I have almost achieved everyone of the small goals I set myself back at the beginning and am now even contemplating some bigger ones for next year like the "City to Surf" and the "Round the Bay" Bike Ride.

I would like to say thanks to all the new friends I have made at Step into Life. It is through everyone’'s support and encouragement of each other that we have all achieved so much together. Finally I would like to say thanks to Lisa who continually inspires and challenges me to achieve things I never thought were possible.
